Wellness

For most patients, massage therapy is an important part of specific medical treatment plans to help them return to daily activities. For example, massage therapy is helpful after joint replacement surgery or injury.

Health

Massage also has many mental health benefits. Even people who are focused on the physical benefits say they feel less stressed after getting a massage.

Massage

A common misconception about massage is that it’s only part of a spa day and intended for pampering yourself. While this may be true for some people, it is most frequently a tool for stress reduction and pain relief.

About Me

I’ve been a Registered Massage Therapist since 2012 in the Victoria area. I have worked with a wide spectrum of concerns including, but not limited to, postural and repetitive strain, whiplash, muscle and joint pain, headaches, anxiety and stress management. In 2018, I took a role as a clinic supervisor at West Coast College of Massage Therapy. As a clinic supervisor I have the privilege of helping the students integrate the communication skills, assessments and techniques they learn in a clinical setting treating the public. Being an instructor has taught me the need for clear communication in the therapeutic relationship.

What to expect?

My priority is to provide you with a safe, therapeutic treatment that aligns with your health care goals. After a thorough health history intake discussing what brings you in, I will do an assessment and explain what areas of the body I will be massaging. Once you agree to the treatment plan (please ask any questions!) I’ll explain how to get on the table, what clothes to remove and how to position your body. I will step out of the room to give you privacy at the beginning and end of our treatment for you to change and get on/off the table. During the treatment I will check-in regarding your comfort with the pressure and positioning. At any time during the treatment, I encourage you to communicate if you require a change in pressure or positioning. After the massage, I provide therapeutic exercise to implement during your home care.

Therapeutic Touch

Pressure preferences vary with each individual. I provide pressure that feels best for your body. Some people prefer a deeper pressure, others a light to moderate pressure. No type of pressure is more therapeutic than another. Pressure preferences are dynamic and can change throughout a treatment. We will work together to find the pressure that works best for you.

Inclusion

My treatments take place in a safe and body-positive space. Body shape, size, amputations, scars, injuries, orientation and gender identity should not prevent anyone from seeking treatment. It is my priority to make you feel comfortable in my treatment room
